AMP Audio - Services
AMP offers solutions for recording and developing the budget conscious singer/songwriter. By being an all-in-one facility, AMP can provide both basic and advanced recorded arrangements for their songs, be it cacophonous walls of sound to subtle string textures. Working one-on-one with proprietor Billy Atwell means that there is less to get lost in the translation and a more accurate realization of the music's objective. There is also the unique sensibility of his production value to consider along with his eclectic tastes in music.
"No matter the style, Billy Atwell seems equally at home with acoustic instrumentation and electronica, and most of his compositions feature both. By synthesizing the two elements together he is able to ground his music in the power and richness of the acoustic without sacrificing the versatility and evocative qualities of the electronica. Stay on the lookout-- I think we'll be seeing more from him." *
While other producers might recognize an influence or style to capitalize on and mimic, Atwell's disposition is to treat each artist on a case by case basis discussing instrument orchestration, arrangements and the mix aesthetic; new ways to shade and light the talent at hand so that they stand free and clear of the competition (as opposed to getting lost in the shuffle of "This Years Version Of Last Years Sound.") As he's prone to elaborate, Atwell believes in forward motion, unbridled intensity and constant reinvention at all costs...
"Otherwise you may as well compete in the pizza business. I've said it before. 'Why sound like everyone else?' These days music has become safe as milk, no matter how many piercings you have or what sort of handgun gangster myth you're spinning.
"I don't mean to sound harsh. It's just that I'm a fan of music...where has it all gone? The cult of the celebrity abounds! Critics and select audiences have always bitched about how formulaic stuff is, but we're in an era of some serious barrel scraping. On many levels. There is something wrong when most of the folks I groove on are in the ground or still have to work day jobs in between reunion tours. Some are even down at the train station howling at the moon! It's come to that. The industry needs a shake down and I'm in a mood to do it. I'm even open to do a take on Nashville as country has gotten a little too slick and diamond studded for my tastes. Since when does your average ranch hand come off a tractor at noon looking like a Calvin Klein ad?"
Despite the heavy overtones of such sentiments, AMP provides a pro-active and nurturing environment for all of it's artists in hopes of setting new standards in an industry that is undeniably tasting the errors of it's ways, the errors of seeking commerce before content.
"I opened AMP to develop new passions in art and to mix genres rather than focus strictly on technique or what's considered 'cool'. There are plenty of other producers and recording facilities that can simply "get the job done". If whomever I am working with has a relentless fire in their gut and is willing to take chances, I can help.
"Any artist that can shape-shift and progress is going to have a greater career trajectory than one doing the familiar or predictable. I am here to encourage my collaborators to dream, to think outside of the box and to facilitate the process from the get-go. Even in a 5 song body of work I aim to touch on the potential of the artist's next five years, as opposed to the proverbial 15 minutes of fame. If you can handle this work ethic and stay true to the process, I will deliver. That's a promise."
Most other recording facilities would charge an artist on average anywhere from $50 to upwards of $150 hour for the same services AMP Audio does. Same goes for the session's drummer, guitarist, bass player, drum programmer/loop editor, percussionist, etc. Do the math. Fewer cooks and contracts will save money and headaches over time.
As an introductory offer AMP is providing state of the art recording, mixing, and all instrumental services at rates too low to print here. In other words, AMP can accommodate most budgets while delivering the creativity, musicality, professionalism and unflappable enthusiasm to give each and every track of the session a life of it's own.

Having been active scoring independent feature length films, avant garde and Shakesperian theater, as well as a number of award winning shorts, Billy Atwell's resume and experience speaks for itself. Many up and coming composers pride themselves on trying to be a "jack of all trades." This creates a lot of passable audio that can come from most anyone, anywhere. And quite often it does. Atwell recognizes his specific voice and knows where it's applications are best suited. For samples of Atwell's remix efforts, click HERE. This is a movement from "Saffron", a modern dance piece performed at Lincoln Center using samples of composer Edgar Grana's Jazz Concerto for Piano, Marimba and Viola.
"That might explain why my two favorite songs off the album were remixes of different movements in Grana's Jazz concerto-- both of which were taken from the Lincoln Center performance of "Saffron" as choreographed by Sebastain Gehrke.
Both tracks have an eerie, compelling feel to them. The jazz piano (both pure and distorted) from the concerto is set against a backdrop of slightly dystopic reverberating electronica, creating a highly evocative subterranian ambiance so tangible that I could see the music." *
